Thanksgiving and such...

We had a great Thanksgiving holiday with my family in Florida. It was nice to see everyone...especially my grandmother (Maw Maw). I usually only get to see her once a year. She promises to come and visit my sister and I after we have our babies in April. She hasn't been to NC since 2002.

While in FL, we decided to go to Sea World on Friday. We took K-bugg to Disney last summer, so I thought Sea World would be a better choice. From the moment we got in the car to travel to Sea World, all I kept hearing from K-bugg was, "I wanna see the sharks! I wanna see the sharks!" Of course the sharks are not the first exhibit in the park, so it was awhile before we made it over to see the sharks. Once we got to the "Shark Encounter" exhibit, she was scared because of the daunting "music" being played inside. My mom had to hold her the entire time, and had to reassure her she was safe. Aside from the sharks, she loved the dolphins and polar bears. I was alittle disappointed that she did not get to see Shamu, the killer whale. Evidentally, the whale had just given birth the day before, so was not able to perform her usual show.

Now...on a different note. I stole this from Cat over at Cat's Life.

8 Firsts:

First Best Friend: I had a "best friend" in Kindergarten, but cannot remember her name. I do remember my best friend in 1st grade...Landi. We remained close friends all the way through high school and college. We are still friends today, but haven't seen each other in a long time.

First Kiss: Travis Berry...6th grade I think.

First Screen Name: Nae_Nae

First Pet: A yellow tabby cat named "Fleabag." I also had a German Shepperd named "Gypsy."

First Piercing: Ears

First Crush: I guess it would have to be Darrin Segrest in 9th grade. He wouldn't give me the time of day.

First CD: Toad the Wet Sprocket and Counting Crows

First Car: 1980 Chevy Camaro

7 Lasts:

Last alcoholic beverage: A tall Coors Lite from Dick's Last Resort in Myrtle Beach (before I found out I was pregnant).

Last car ride: Home from work and daycare today.

Last Kiss: From my husband when he kissed me goodbye this morning, and one from K-bugg when I dropped her off at daycare.

Last movie seen: In a theater - Chicken Little, and at home - Kingdom of Heaven with Orlando Bloom

Last phone call: My sister, Kelly

Last CD played: Ha Ha...that's a funny one! That would have to be Poison and Bon Jovi while driving to Florida. I was bored and tired of my current music, so I thought I'd listen to alittle music from my younger years.

It's Official!

My sister found out today that she's having a boy. She called to share the news - but to also let me know it was okay to use the name "Ella" for our new baby (see the "What's in a name?" post for more details). So...it's official. Our new daughter's name will be Ella Ruby (named after our grandmothers). I'm so excited for my sister! I can't wait to see her become a mother. I think she and my brother-in-law will make great parents.

Weekend Tidbits

Friday was D-Day for me at work. Last school year, I completed the "National Boards" process in hopes of becoming a nationally certified teacher. I have been awaiting my final scores since March. I found out on Friday that I did not pass. I missed it by 15 points. So...I will attempt it again this year. My scores from last year will be banked and I will only have to redo the part/parts I feel will increase my score by 15 points. Back to square one...

Today, K-bugg helped me make grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. She prefers white american cheese on her sandwich, so assumes everyone else should ALSO like white american. As I was making a sandwich for my husband, I asked her to get out the "yellow cheese" for Daddy. She replies, "Yellow cheese? What is WRONG with him?!"

What's in a Name?

Choosing a name for your unborn child is hard work! I had a name picked out - a name I love. But there is a catch. I stole it from my sister! She thought of this name a long time ago, before our pregnancies (we are both pregnant now - one week apart). It's actually my grandmother's name (Ella). So...being the kind sister that she is, she agreed that whomever discovered they were pregnant with a girl first, could have the name. I found out last week I am having a girl. My sister doesn't find out the sex of her baby for another 2 weeks. So, she generously said I could use the name.

Now I feel terrible! It was her name to begin with! I've decided that if she finds out in two weeks that she is also having a girl, she can have the name. So...here I am trying to choose a different name that I love just as much. I have picked out two names, but need some feedback. Ansley or Delaney?

Vegetable Soup

Despite the fact that this pregnancy leaves me craving soup all the time, my favorite thing to eat when the weather starts getting cooler, is chili and vegetable soup. Yesterday, I had the day off because it was Veterans Day. (My husband, who is a veteran - had to work...go figure!) I decided to make homemade vegetable soup. It cooked in my crock pot all day, (teasing me with the aroma) as I cleaned my house and did laundry. At 7:00, it was finally ready! I love vegetable soup! What do you like to eat/drink when the weather starts getting cooler?

PS - Kelly, you will have to help me eat it now! You know no one in my house likes vegetable soup!

Today was my doctor's appointment. I was anxious all day at work because I knew we were going to check the sex of the baby! I prayed we would be able to "see" this time. My doctor checked at my last appointment, but the baby's legs were crossed.

I am 18 weeks pregnant today. I can't believe I am almost half way through this pregnancy! I gained 5 pounds over the past 4 weeks - and a total of 15 pounds overall. Someone asked me the other day if I have had any cravings. My answer? Food, in general!

A LONG Weekend!

WARNING TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS: Part of the following entry is about my husband. Please refrain from asking him about his job. This is a "sore" subject.

I am glad this weekend is over! Yes, it's nice to relax and rest over the weekend. However, I did none of the above. On Friday, we had a "Girls Night Out" with my sister, my mother-in-law, K-bugg and myself. We went out to eat and went to the movies to see "Chicken Little" (cute movie). On Saturday, we spent the day Christmas shopping - and later that night, I went to a baby shower. (Speaking of baby showers...Has anyone ever heard of a "drop-in/floating" baby shower? This is where the shower is set up for people to drop by at their convenience within a certain time frame. I assumed this shower was a drop-in shower, but realized upon arriving I was an hour late! Fortunately, I was not the only one to make this mistake. The hostess said she had never heard of a drop-in/floating shower. I felt like a heel! Oh well!) Sunday ended up being an okay day. I was exhausted from Friday and Saturday and wanted to relax. I did catch a short nap with K-bugg, but was "on duty" the rest of the day (because my husband was in no mood to deal with/play with her).

That brings me to the next subject...

Two weeks ago, my husband found out his company was planning to put their employees on shifts. He found out last week he had been placed on the "third" shift (10:30 am - 7:00 pm, including every Saturday). To make matters worse, the shifts will not rotate. Every six months, each employee's performance will be evaluated and the decision will be made whether or not to change their shift from one, to another. He has been with this company for 10 years. He is very upset (with good reason). This was my husband's last weekend off before starting the new shift on Monday (today). I'm not sure how other husbands deal with frustration - but my husband does not deal with it very well at all! When he is upset, those around him are miserable right along with him. Therefore, I was thankful to be busy on Friday and Saturday - without him. Sunday was spent defusing his stress and frustration by keeping K-bugg entertained and out of his hair. This was a difficult task...she loves her Daddy!

"I don't love you anymore, Mommy!"

Originally uploaded by naenae32.

What is it with 3 (almost 4) year olds? Everything turns into an argument. After picking up my daughter from daycare, the following conversation occurs while driving home...

NaeNae: "How was school today?"

K-bugg: "I'm not talking...I'm quiet today."

NaeNae: "You're QUIET today?

K-bugg: "Yes! I don't want to talk today...but I'll talk to Daddy when he gets home."

NaeNae: "Okay...maybe you need some quiet time to yourself."

Silence...5 minutes later

NaeNae: "K-bugg, we have to clean up when we get home today. MawMaw is coming to visit."

K-bugg: "But I don't want to."

NaeNae: "Well, I'm sorry. You have to pick up your books and toys in the living room."

K-bugg: "I'm not cleaning up...(whine)"

NaeNae: "Well...I guess you will have to sit in time out until you decide to pick up your toys."

K-bugg: "I don't love you anymore, Mommy. You're mean to me!"

Where did this come from? How does such a little girl know how to push my buttons at 3 years old? She won't talk to ME, but will talk to her DAD. And she knows how to really get to me, by saying she doesn't love me (even though I don't let her know). Is this typical for all 3/4 years olds?

Unfortunately, I had to miss trick-or-treating with my daughter. My husband had to take her. We live in a small neighborhood - and the neighbors decided the kids should all go trick-or-treating together. One of my neighbors came to pick up all of the kids and a parent (my husband) in a hay covered wagon. They had a good time. K-bugg came back with way too much candy. Any suggestions on what I should do with it all?

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
