34 Weeks

My doctor's appointment went well today. My blood pressure was normal - and I had NO sugar in my urine this time! YEAH! The baby's heartbeat was steady around 130 bpm. Unfortunately, I gained 3 and a half pounds this time (a pound and a half too many). Oh well! My next visit is two weeks from today, with the dreaded "exam" (testing for Strep). It won't be long now! Six weeks and counting!

PS - Kevin worked his buns off finishing the nursery project this past weekend (putting up wainscoting,chair-rail molding and painting). I will post pictures in a day or two. There are a few finishing touches I am working on. I have also worked every night for the past week, washing baby clothes and putting things together for the nursery. Man, I MUST be nesting!

Choosing a Movie

My sister and I had plans to go and see a movie last night. We had a hard time choosing one, because there doesn't seem to be anything playing right now. Anything we were familiar with, anyway. While having my hair cut yesterday, a woman in the beauty salon suggested we see "Brokeback Mountain." I have to say - I had no desire to see this movie in the first place. Heath Ledger is one of my "boyfriends," so I knew I would have a hard time seeing him play the role of a gay cowboy. With that being said...How can I truly rate this movie? I hated it! Heath Ledger mumbled throughout the entire movie! I kept having to ask my sister the same question the entire time - "What did he just say?" Also, I had a major problem with his wife in the movie. She knew about his relationship with the other cowboy for years and NEVER confronted him about it, until they were divorced some 13 years later. The only good thing about this movie, is that I got to see Heath Ledger's butt (and his "business" from a distance).

Now, if you want suggestions for a GOOD movie to rent for the weekend...You need to watch, "In Her Shoes" (with Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley Maclaine). It's a funny and touching movie about two, very different sisters. My husband called it a chick-flick (meaning it's a girly drama). It's a "feel-good movie" that made me cry. (But what doesn't make me cry these days?) Also - if you're up for a comedy, you need to rent "40 Year Old Virgin." My husband and I laughed until we cried while watching this one! I should warn you though...If you're easily offended by sex, nudity, or profanity, you may want to steer clear of this one. I thought it was hilarious!

What movies have you seen lately?

Funny K-Bugg Story

As I mentioned in a previous post, K-Bugg and I are home today because she is sick. Since I am home with nothing to do, I decided today would be a great day to start clearing out the baby's closet in the nursery (I've been using it as storage). While pulling things out of the closet, K-Bugg wanted to see what was going on and came in to join me. She found my scrapbooking supplies and a few pictures. She came across one of my wedding pictures...

K-Bugg: Mommy, is this your wedding?
NaeNae: Yes. That's me and Daddy on the day we got married.
K-Bugg: Where am I? I'm not in the picture!
NaeNae: You weren't here yet.
K-Bugg: Was I in your belly?
NaeNae: Uh...sort of, I guess.
K-Bugg: Well, your belly isn't fat.
NaeNae: No, that's because you were just a little egg in Mommy's Belly. You weren't a baby yet.
K-Bugg: YES I WAS! I WAS a baby in a little egg, and I WAS at your wedding! YOU don't know what you're talking about!

Valentine's Day - The Final Chapter

So my Valentine's Day was nice. No, my husband didn't whisk me off to Paris for the holiday - but he did put some effort into making me feel loved. Honestly, we didn't get to spend much time together because of his schedule at work this week (10:00am - 7:00pm). However, he got up early on Valentine's Day to give me roses before I went to work. He also asked me out on a date for the evening, but that didn't happen because neither of us felt like going anywhere once he finally made it home. Instead, we stayed home and snuggled on the couch, watching TV. Later, I got a back message which made my Valentine's Day perfect. Now, I'm still holding him to that date he promised. Maybe we can go this Saturday.

"Cooped Up" on a Beautiful Day

It's beautiful outside today! It's been in the mid to upper 60s and sunny for the past three days. However, I haven't been able to enjoy them. K-Bugg has been sick. Kevin stayed out with her yesterday, so today it's my turn. She has been running a high fever since Wednesday night (102-103.5 degrees). She started to get a little stuffy with a cough on Wednesday night (after the fever started). Kevin took her to the doctor yesterday. They tested her for strep throat and a urinary tract infection. Both came out negative. The doctor is treating her for a sinus/throat infection. Her fever finally broke this morning. She's starting to perk up a bit today. Maybe by this afternoon she'll feel like going outside.

32 Weeks

I had a doctor's appointment today. It was one of those that took all of five minutes. Actually, it lasted a little longer than that - but who's counting? They did the usual : urine sample, weight, blood pressure, measuring of the "belly," and listening to the baby's heartbeat.

As soon as I came out of the bathroom (after submitting my specimen), the nurse said, "Did you have a little sugar today on Valentine's Day?" "Uh...just a little. Well? I guess I had more than a little," I replied. Evidentally, it showed up in my urine. She highlighted "2+" on my chart - whatever that means. So I asked, "Is that bad?" Her answer? "You'll have to talk to the doctor about that." I got a small lecture on taking it easy on the sugars and carbohydrates again. Okay! Okay! Again - it's Valentine's Day! Do you know how many cupcakes, cookies and pieces of candy have been dangling in my face all day? I tried to resist, but wasn't very successful.

In other news...I gained the standard "one pound a week" this time (3 lbs). My blood pressure is great - and my belly is measuring normal. Ella's heartbeat was pretty steady between 130 and 145 bpm. My doctor asked if she is moving around alot these days. Is she ever! It feels like she is doing flips in there! Actually, she must be, because she is no longer "breech." She's "head down" and ready to go! I'm not ready, though! The nursery isn't ready for her arrival yet. That's another story I'll tell you about later...

Valentine's Day - Part 2

Okay...my husband still has time to redeem himself for Valentine's Day. Let's just see if he gets up off of his "let's just say I love you and be done with it" lazy ass and actually expresses his undying love for me. Should I hold my breath? Come Tuesday, someone may need to call 911 to rescue me. Actually, thanks to my brother-in-law, he may come through after all. Thanks, Tim! Here's the story:

My husband is a huge NASCAR fan and doesn't miss a racing event on TV. This Saturday night is the first NASCAR event for the new season, so he calls my brother-in-law to see if we can get together to watch the race. My brother-in-law explains that he doesn't know if he can do it this weekend because he is trying to plan a weekend getaway for he and my sister, Kelly. When I ask Kevin if he has talked to Tim about the race, he tells me the story, and makes me promise to keep my mouth shut - because it is a secret. My reaction? Tears! Tears begin to well up in my eyes. I try to hide them, but Kevin knows me well enough that he sees my reaction. "What is it?" he asks. "Why are you crying?" "I'm not crying...I don't know," I reply. "I guess because I think it's nice he is doing something so sweet for her." "Well.........(trying to think of something redeeming to say).....I was thinking of doing something for you too, but I have to work this weekend," he says. I later talk to my sister and find out he has called Tim to thank him for getting him into hot water! Of course his version goes something like this: "I told Renee about your plans this weekend. Thanks for getting me into trouble! She started crying and said she wished I could do something so thoughtful and caring." Do you think he has a guilty conscience? I don't know. But now, Kelly is missing out on her weekend getaway because Tim now knows it is race weekend. I'm sure she is thanking Kevin for that one! See her story here - Kelly in NC.

Valentine's Day

So Valentine's Day is right around the corner. I should be happy and excited about this holiday because I am married to the love of my life. However, after the discussion I had with my husband today about Valentine's Day, I just want to slap some sense into him! The conversation went something like this:

NaeNae: You know, Valentine's Day is on Tuesday.
Kevin: THIS Tuesday?
NaeNae: Yes, a week from today.
Kevin: I guess that means you want a present.
NaeNae: I didn't say that...I don't need a present on Valentine's Day.
Kevin: Can't we just say "I love you" and be done with it?
NaeNae: (Silence...Thinking to myself - is he joking or serious?)

As you can see, I have the most "unromantic" husband in the world. I really don't need (or want) a gift for Valentine's Day. I just wish that this one time he would go out of his way to make me feel loved beyond belief. He says "I love you" everyday. How will doing that on Valentine's Day be special? Is it my pregnancy hormones that are asking for too much? Am I being ridiculous? Someone answer me!

My Baby Turns 4...Or is it 14?

Sunday was K-Bugg's fourth birthday. I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. It feels like yesterday, that I held her in my arms at the hospital. I can still picture her face as she looked up at me while I fed her for the first time. I thought her eyes were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Sometimes, I look at her now - and can't believe she is mine. I wonder if she knows just how much I love her. I wish I had the words to describe the feelings I have for her. She is my world.

Recent comments from K-Bugg:

As I attempted to get K-Bugg motivated to get up and get dressed for school on Friday, I mentioned that she was having her "school birthday party today" (cupcakes). Knowing she was having her "real" birthday party on Sunday at the gymnastics center, she asks, "I get to have two birthdays?" "Yes," I tell her. She then replies, "You mean I'll be four today at my school party - and five at my gymnastics party?"

K-Bugg loves soda! If she gets her hands on one, she "chugs" it like she's in a contest at a frat party! This is probably due to the fact that we limit her intake of soft drinks. This weekend, we had a few "Sprites" in the refrigerator for her birthday party. She decided she wanted one, but didn't ask first. When I caught her in the frig trying to open one, I said, "No ma'am. You do not need a Sprite. You can have milk or juice." "But I want it, Mommy" she says. I tell her, "No...You can have milk or juice instead." While standing in the refrigerator door, she drops to her knees, throws her hands in the air and replies, "YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND ME, MOM!"

After picking K-Bugg up from school today, I begin to ask her about her day as we drive home. It went something like this:
NaeNae: "Did you play in centers today?"
K-Bugg: "I don't know."
NaeNae: "What did you have for lunch?"
K-Bugg: "I don't know!"
NaeNae: "You don't remember?"
K-Bugg: "I DON'T KNOW, MOMMY! YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE!"
(What is this child's problem?...I think to myself.)
NaeNae: "I'm ruining your life? How am I ruining your life?"
K-Bugg: "You're always asking me questions! I don't want you to ask me any questions!"
NaeNae: "Okay...fine!"

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
