25 Weeks

Below is a picture of my sister and I. I am 25 weeks...she is 24 weeks.

I had a doctor's appointment today (12-29-05). The dreaded "sugar test" was scheduled for this visit. Actually, it didn't turn out as badly as I had anticipated. The "drink" has improved tremendously since being pregnant with K-Bugg. Last time I had to drink this thick, syrupy orange sludge. This time, it was a normal tasting fruit punch (similar to Koolaide). We also listened to the baby's heartbeat. It was pretty steady at 144 bpm. And to my surprise, I only gained 2 lbs this month! Yeah! I guess it was time to slow down after gaining 7 lbs last month. My next appointment will be late in January. We will do another ultrasound with that visit. I hope it's still a girl after all of the shopping I've done...not to mention the gifts I received for Christmas.

Happy Holidays!

Whew! Although it's been extremely busy around here with the holidays, I can't believe Christmas is already over! I guess staying busy is what makes it fly by. A part of me is sad that it all had to come to an end. Mostly because K-Bugg was so excited about Santa coming this year! It made Christmas fun again! When you're a child, Christmas is the best thing in the world. As you grow older, it sort of loses its "magic" and excitement. My daughter brought all of that back for me this year. Sure, she enjoyed Christmas last year at 2 years old...but not like this year! All I heard about was, "Santa this," and "Santa that." Here's a question for you...How many parents used this to your advantage? I know I did on many occasions!

Examples:
1. Meltdown in public? "Do you want me to call Santa?"
2. Refuses to brush her teeth and go to bed? "I guess I'm going to have to call Santa."
3. Yelling at mom? "Oh no! I hope Santa's elves didn't see or hear that. They might tell Santa."

Let's just say it helped out this year.

The Project

Kevin is thrilled about the progress of his ongoing project. For those of you who don't know the history behind this project, here's the story...

A year and a half ago, my husband Kevin purchased a 1964 Ford Galaxie. Not being much of a car enthusiast at the time, I called it "Grandma's Grocery Getter," and taught my daughter to call it the "junky car." Needless to say, the hair on the back of my husband's neck would stand up straight at the sound of those names. According to Kevin, this car was in mint condition. Everything was original and it didn't have a single scratch. The only things that needed to be fixed/worked on, were the brakes and the windshield (it had a small crack). He referred to it as the "Hotrod."

The first thing my husband started on, was the engine. For months, he kicked my van out of the garage so he could work on his precious car. After getting the engine going, he replaced the entire braking system, and it was ready to go! (So I thought! I was wrong!). He then decided he didn't like the cooling system and wanted to replace the original one. $500 later, he replaced the original radiator with a bigger and more "efficient" one. Finally, the car was ready for the road!

It was a bright and sunny afternoon - the perfect day to take his "hotrod" out for it's first official spin. But before my husband could leave, he wanted to fasten a 1964 license plate onto the back of his Galaxie. He parked the car in our driveway, and started working. After tightening the final screw on the license plate, he pulled the "chalk block" from under the car's tire and turned away to put his screw driver back in the garage. It wasn't until he returned from the garage, that he witnessed his car rolling down our backyard, straight into a tree! Remember the newly installed, $500 radiator I mentioned? TOAST! As well as the entire front end and fender.

Well, I have to admit...I wasn't a very nice wife. When I saw his car buried in the pine trees of our back yard, I laughed out loud! My husband was beyond pissed. His "hotrod" was now officially a "junky car," as I had rightfully named it in the beginning. I think my husband actually shed a few tears in that moment, though he will probably deny it today. After initially laughing, I then saw the look on Kevin's face. I decided laughing to myself would be a better option. We didn't speak about it for days. I didn't dare bring it up. I was even sworn to secrecy by my husband. I wasn't allowed to tell anyone of his mishap! I did however secretly tell my sister, best friend, a parents. Let's just say it took months for him to finally see the humor in the situation. I can now say, "Parking brake!" without receiving the look of death.

So now you know the story...After the accident, my husband decided to completely restore his Galaxie. He stripped the car down to the frame and started from scratch. He has replaced every nut, bolt and washer (and a few parts here and there - ie: the front end of the car). The body of the car is now almost complete. He just needs to put the trim pieces back on and replace the windshield. What's next? A 460 "Big Block" engine. Whatever that is!

I am now proud to say I have become an uneducated car enthusiast. No, I cannot name the make and model of "classic" cars, but I do appreciate the work and effort that goes into restoring one! I might eventually consider changing the name of his car from "Grandma's Grocery Getter" to "Hotrod," but don't tell Kevin I said that...

23 Weeks

23 weeks and counting...

This photo was taken the night of my school's Christmas party. (Incase you haven't noticed, I'm not photogenic...another stupid expression on my face!) I had to go alone because my husband was "on call" at work. Luckily I had my best bud, Susan (and her husband) to keep me company. I had a good time, but wished Kevin could have been there.

The Good Husband

A friend of mine sent this story attached to an email. I thought it was cute, so decided to share...]

The Good Husband
Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn't taste like alcohol at all. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose!

Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins and cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:

"Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to
make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love,
Jillian"

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating.

Jack asks, "Son... what happened last night?"
"Well, you came home after 3 am, drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door."

Confused he asked his son, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me??"

His son replies, "Oh THAT! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, "Leave me alone, lady, I'm married!"

Broken Coffee Table $39.99
Hot Breakfast $4.20
Two Aspirins $.38
Saying the right thing, at the right time - PRICELESS!!!

7 Pounds Later...

Today was my doctor's appointment. We listened to the baby's heart. Her little heart was beating around 140 bpm. The results of my bloodwork came back. Everything looks normal, other than needing a MMR vaccine update (after the baby is born). I also found out that I've gained 7 pounds over the past month! That brings me to a total of 22 lbs so far in this pregnancy. Whoa! My doctor is not a stickler about weight. He usually doesn't say much to me about my weight gain - but today he responded in this way -

Doctor: "A pound a week is a good rule of thumb. You've gained 7 pounds this month."

NaeNae: "Well...it WAS Thanksgiving! I couldn't turn down all of the delicious food."

Doctor: "I'm sure you will be more conscious this month, and probably only gain 2 pounds next time."

NaeNae: (thinking to myself) "Yeah, right!"

NaeNae: "I'll do my best."

Does this man not know that I am feeling like an eating machine these days? It's hard for me to turn food down. The way I see it - this will be my last baby, so why not enjoy it? I guess I will pay for it later. And besides...I've already decided to join the gym after this baby is born, anyway! So there!

My next doctor's appointment is tomorrow. I'm nervous to see how much weight I've gained since last month. Let's just say I didn't hold back on eating over the Thanksgiving holidays. I ate like it was my job!

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
