A Life-Changing Event

I was over at Crabby Mama's earlier this week and found her Q & A "series." I stumbled across a particular question, and decided I would post it on my blog. It's one of those questions that really make you think about your life and how certain paths lead you to different places.

What one event/decision (if you HAD to choose) do you think most influenced where you are in your life today? How has it affected you?

Here is my story:
I'm guessing the year was 1995. A friend of mine (Tara) asked me to go to a birthday party with her. I didn't know anyone at the party except for my friend I came with. While there, I met Kevin. I ended up talking to him the entire night. He was easy to talk to, and in ways, it reminded me of my Dad. (I went to my Dad a lot when I had "serious" things to talk about. He was a good listener and always had no-nonsense advice.) Unfortunately, I was in a relationship at the time, so I knew this friendship could go no further. We continued to run into each other periodically over the next year - through our mutual friends. Eventually, Kevin moved back home to North Carolina and life carried on.

In 1998, I started to realize the relationship I was in, was not the "right one" for me. Upon hearing this, my friend Tara reminded me of Kevin. She decided to play "Cupid," and called him to see if he was in a relationship at the time. (At this point, Kevin and I had not seen or talked to each other since 1996.) To make a long story short, I finished college 7 months later and moved to North Carolina to be with Kevin. It was a huge leap of faith to move to NC and to pursue this relationship - but somehow, I just knew it was what I was supposed to do. So in conclusion, the one event that most influenced my life, as I know it, was a chance meeting at a birthday party 13 years ago. It affected my life in a way I never would have imagined! It left me with a wonderful husband and two precious little girls that mean the world to me.

**The sad part to this story, is that I haven't spoken to my friend Tara in several years now. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be sitting here today, posting this story. So if you're out there, Tara - and you stumble across this blog, email me. There is a link at the top of this page. And BTW...Thanks!

I would have to say that marrying my husband and having my children are the biggest life changing events for me as well. I can not imagine life without them.

My life changing event would have to be going on a blind date (the only blind date that I ever went on in my life) back in the spring of 2000. That blind date was with my husband's best friend. Needless to say - the blind date didn't work out, but being introduced to my husband changed my life forever. :)

Wow - that is quite a CHANCE encounter. Isn't it neat how things turn out. I can't believe you just up adn moved to NC like that. I still live in the same county that I was born.

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
