George

I'm sitting here watching "George Michael - Behind the Music" on VH-1. Am I the only person in the world intrigued by this show? I was a huge George Michael fan in high school and still love his music. Are there any other George Michael fans still out there? Or am I the only one?

**I just realized I am watching VH-1 Classic. I didn't even realize the channel existed. Anyway, NOW I feel OLD!

Surviving the Camping Experience and Living to Tell About it!

Actually, I should probably wait until tomorrow to officially make a statement like the title I chose for this post. In a stroke of luck, I have wireless internet here (and a free moment), so you get to hear my tales first hand. Overall, we are having a great time here in Cherokee. I wish I could say we have relaxed the entire time, but anyone with a toddler knows relaxing is not in the cards. We have spent 75% of our time chasing Ella around. She loves to explore and thinks nothing of walking away from our cabin to see the neighbors, pet random dogs, pick up leaves/trash, or just plain run away. Our only time to relax is when the kids are sleeping and the adults get to sit around the campfire alone.

Our cabin is nice, but of course has no AC. We came prepared with fans, so it has actually been pleasant - and down right cold at night. I think the low was 58 degrees this morning. Our cabin doesn't have a bathroom, so we have been using the "bath house." The bath house is nice, but I seem to have trouble every time I visit. Let's see...I've forgotten my towel on several occasions, found the nonworking shower after completely undressing, forgotten my shampoo, found the shower with NO hot water (Kevin), dropped my clean clothes on the wet shower floor, and that about sums it up! Kevin's friend has his own camper. It is brand new and has everything you could ask for - complete kitchen and bathroom (with tub/shower), dining area, living area, flat screen TV, DVD/CD player, gas grill, and sleeps 8! We may look into buying one down the road. (It would also save me from having to visit the bath house.) We have found that it is a lot cheaper to stay in a campground. It is family oriented with a pool, water slide, jumping pillow (trampoline), playground, outdoor movie and planned activities for the kids. The girls have had a blast!

Highlights of our trip:
* Stopping every 30 minutes on the way up to take bathroom breaks (K-Bugg was afraid to poop)
* Meeting "Santa" at one of our bathroom stops. K-Bugg saw him and asked if he was Santa. He said, "Yes, I'm on vacation and needed to check up on some children in this area."
* Swimming in the pool and going down the water slide.
* Racing across the playground equipment with a stopwatch to see who was the fastest (kids AND adults)
* Chilling out in front of the campfire at night - listening to music, drinking beer and making S'mores
* Grilling out every night - hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, and BBQ chicken
* Taking a picnic lunch to a state park on the NC and TN state line (on top of a mountain)
* Seeing a wild black bear and her cubs on top of the mountain.

Give the girl some love!

My best friend decided to start her own blog. She has yet to update since setting it up last week. When I asked her about it, she said, "I don't have anything to write about!" Stop by and give Birdmoma some love! Maybe it will give her some encouragement!

Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed does not even begin to describe how I am feeling right now! I have one day to pack for our trip. Have I started? No. I am a procrastinator. Look up the word in the dictionary, and you will find an empty photo box with the following caption: "NaeNae - Queen of Procrastinators! (Photo unavailable due to late submission.)" Anyone who knows me well, knows this to be true.

Winding Down and Camping Out

My summer is coming to an end. In only 7 short days, I will be going back to work. I have a lot in store for me this school year. As I've mentioned before, I am moving out of First grade and will be working with older kids - 4th graders. I am anxious and excited about the change. Over the past week, I've tried to squeeze in every doctor, dentist, and hair appointment possible. I think they are all covered, except for one. The dreaded one. You know what I'm talking about, ladies. I am trying to put that one off, but know I shouldn't.

On Saturday, we are headed to the mountains for a final summer vacation. We are going to Cherokee, NC. Did I mention we are camping? Well really, we are staying in a cabin, but it's in a campground. We are joining one of Kevin's friends who has his own camper. Their family enjoys camping and suggested we come along and stay in the cabin. We are planning to go tubing, biking, and just hang out. We will be close to Harrah's Casino and not too far from the Biltmore house, so maybe we can head over to one of those places one afternoon. I hope the weather cools off for our trip. It's been anywhere from the upper 90s to over 100 degrees this week. Did I mention our cabin has no AC? Apparently, AC is not needed in the mountains. I guess we'll test out that theory on this trip.

Funny Things from K-Bugg

My mom has been visiting from FL over the past few days. She has actually been on vacation for close to 3 weeks now, visiting us and family in West Virginia. She has reached the end of her vacation and is passing back through on her way back to FL. She hasn't had a chance to check her email over the past few weeks, so asked to use our computer while visiting. Of course, this was fine by me - but not Kellynn, since it cuts into her computer time playing, "Barbie Makeover" or "Nick Jr." Yesterday, our DSL went out briefly. We found out when Kellynn went to play one of her games online. She marched out of the room, arms folded, looking for my mom.

"MiMi! MIMI! You've been here for two days, playing on our computer, and now look what you've done! It doesn't work!"

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
