Before and After

Our Fourth of July started out great. The plans were set for grilling out with family and friends, then wrapping up the evening with carnival rides and fireworks. Unfortunately, the last part of our evening was spent in the ER this year. Kellynn, the animal lover, got a little too close to a dog chewing on a bone. Boy, was she a trooper that night. She ended up with 5 stitches. I can't believe how well she handled it all. She handled it better than I did! The doctor ordered the nurse to get me a cold washcloth and a Sprite because I started "looking green." I did feel a bit on the light-headed side. It's just so hard to see your baby hurt. I am thankful she is okay and that her face is healing up quickly. I am also happy to see that she is not scared of dogs now. While visiting Auntie and Uncle Tommy yesterday, she tried to pet both of their dogs. Of course, she was very cautious this time.

Poor little thing! How scary that must've been, for both of you.

You're right, she is healing up beautifully. :)

I can't believe how quickly she is healing!!! I've been waiting (nervously) for you to post a picture and I am so relieved by the "after" picture. And I'm also so glad that her attitude about dogs isn't tarnished...she's such an animal lover. :) Thanks for the update!

Wow, I can't imagine how you both must have felt. I am SO glad everything turned out the way it did. She is a BRAVE little girl!

Poor baby! That is great that she still wants to play with dogs. The 'post' picture looks really good. It is amazing how fast your lip can heal up.
I don't know what it is when your child gets sick that makes is so hard deal with. Sam had a bloody nose one time and I had to call my neighbor to come over and help me. I started freaking out.

She is still as beautiful as ever. That scar is really looking good. She has healed so well. Given a little more time you probably won't even see it anymore.

Ugghh, I did not even know about this! OMG!!! You handled it well, I would have been a basketcase.

Are you putting anything like Mederma on it? It is specifically made for getting rid of scars. And are you keeping it covered when in the sun? Hmm are you?

Misty - Yes, we're being cautious in the sun. I wouldn't let her go outside until the stitches were removed. SInce then, we've been using sunscreen and covering it with Bandaids. We will start using the Mederma cream when the scabbing is gone.

Our little one got bit by our dog a few weeks ago. She did the same thing and tried to take the bone! But gosh, it's amazing how quickly they heal!

I am surprised that you posted the before picture since Kellynn was so against you taking the photo in the first place. I guess you can get away with this now- but when she is 13- don't even think about it! Anyhow, I am glad that she is healing so quickly. That night really gave all of us a scare.

Poor little one! The Mederma cream is great. My boyfriend had a horrible scar on his arm and we used the Mederma and it worked so well!

Glad everyone is ok! :)

Oh my goodness! Poor little girl! I read about it on your sister's site and didn't know which one it was. How brave of her to still want to pet dogs! What is on her chest?

Blogger NaeNae had this to say:

Summer - The things on her chest are from monitors the doctor used to keep a check on her vitals during the stitches (she was sedated for the procedure). They were extremely sticky and didn't come off for a couple of days.

Ohhhh, so the things on her chest weren't pasties. Okay, I get it now!!!

P.S. Dena is not going to be able to make the trip, so it's just me kiddo - am I okay to fly in near you and drive with you? We need to plan this so I can go ahead and book a flight cheap! I think Kerry wants to do the same thing. ROAD TRIP!!!
