Sisterly Love

The fighting begins...

It only took around 16 months! Kellynn figured out early that she could take things away from Ella because she was "just a baby." We had numerous talks about why this was not a nice thing to do. The talks have never seemed to work. Secretly, I couldn't wait until Ella figured out what was going on and object to the mistreatment. I got my wish this weekend. Now I regret thinking I would like for Ella to take up for herself. She has started hitting (arms just a swinging) and biting. She was sent to "Time Out" three times today.

Good News

Ella had her appointment with the Orthopedist this morning. They did a thorough exam with x-rays and found everything to be normal. The doctor could hear and feel the popping of her hip. She even mentioned being able to feel popping in her knees as well. But the x-rays and exam confirmed that she was developing normal without any problems with hip dysplasia (dislocation of the hip). She said the "popping" was coming from ligament movement and would cause no harm. That's good news!

High School Meme

I'm trying to do better about updating my blog this summer. I saw this over at Bad Mama (which by the way, was my first time visiting). Thanks Bad Mama, for the idea!

1. Who was your best friend/friends?
My BFF all through middle school and high school was Alysia. She and I should have been sisters because we were so much alike. I thought our friendhsip would stand the test of time. Unfortunately, we grew apart due to me moving away and our lives taking different paths. I also met Carrie in high school. She moved from another county and we became fast friends. I also consider her one of my best friends from high school.

2. What sports did you play?
Ha ha ha ha! That's a joke, right? I possess NO athletic abilities. I did play Powderpuff Football.

3. What kind of car did you drive?
1989 Camaro - and I thought I was HOT STUFF!

4. It’s Friday night, where were you?
Most likely at a football game or staying over at Alysia or Carrie's house.

5. Were you a party animal?
I enjoyed going to parties - but never drank or smoked until I graduated from high school.

6. Were you considered a flirt?
A flirt? Maybe alittle...

7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I was in the band my freshman year (when all of the cool and cute boys were also in the band - seriously!) But then they graduated, so I quit. I was also in the chior my Junior year, I think.

8. Were you a nerd?
No, I guess I was popular - whatever that means (I was voted "Most Popular" my Senior year). But, I don't feel I was "popular" in the stereotypical way because I was friends with all types of people - even the ones considered to be "nerds" or different.

9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Suspended or expelled? No, but Alysia and I were sent out of my Chemistry teacher's class on a daily basis to make sure the "flag pole didn't run away." I guess that would be considered an in-school suspension.

10. Can you sing the fight song?
No...I'm not sure we had one.

11. Who was your favorite teacher?
Mr. Hall, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Schuler - Agriculture teachers (I grew up in a rural / farming community.)

12. School mascot?
Raiders (which I guess is some kind of wolf)

13. Did you go to Prom?
Yes, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year.

14. If you could go back and do it over, would you?
Knowing what I know now, yes - but only to take my academics more seriously (especially my Senior year). I really blew my chances of receiving scholarships.

15. What do you remember most about graduation?
Going to Project Graduation - the post graduation party sponsored by the school.

16. Where were you on senior skip day?
Universal Studios in Orlando, FL

17. Did you have a job your Senior year?
Yes - Publix (grocery store)

18. Where did you go most often for lunch?
McDonalds and Pizza Hut

19. Have you gained weight since then?
Yes...Haven't we all?! I've probably gained 20 lbs since high school.

20. What did you do after graduation?
I went to a community college and continued working at Publix.

21. When did you graduate?
1991

22. Who was your Senior prom date?
That's a funny question...I can only remember his nickname - Tupelo. I was supposed to go with my boyfriend Chip, who broke my heart and broke up with me for some stupid reason. I refused to miss my Senior prom, so I asked Tupelo to be my date. (He went to a different school.) The week before prom, Chip decided he was sorry and wanted to get back together. Of course we did, but I still went to the prom with Tupelo because it was the right thing to do.

23. Are you going / did you go to your 10 year reunion?
Yes, and I also went to a 15 year class reunion last summer. It was nice to see my old friends.

24. Who was your home room teacher?
I don't remember...Mr. Carling?

25. Who will repost this after you?
Maybe my sister, Kelly

Crying Mommy

Here is a picture of a laundry basket my oldest daughter has in her room. As you can see, it has a lid with a handle on the top.

Here is a picture of kid friendly scissors I gave my oldest daughter. Along with the scissors, she recieved a thorough - and I mean thorough, lesson on the proper uses of scissors in our home.

1. Do not run with scissors.
2. Scissors are used for paper only.
3. Scissors can only be used on Art supplies - not books, photos, hair, or Mommy's things.
4. When in doubt, ask Mommy before cutting.

Needless to say, the scissors have been put into "Time Out" on numerous occassions for various reasons. Each with revisiting acceptable uses of scissors. Now - remember the laundry basket I mentioned earlier? Over the last few months, I've noticed the handle slowly dwindling away. Little by little, it has gotten smaller and smaller - until finally today, it vanished! How did that happen? (You might wonder.) I've had my suspicions about it for some time and have questioned her several times. Each time I get the same answer. "I don't know what happened to it Mommy!" When asked if she has been cutting it with her scissors, the answer is always, "No!"

Today, she had a friend come over and ask to play. Before going over to her friend's house, she had to clean up her room. Since her friend was waiting, I decided to help with the cleaning up process and found the final piece of the basket handle on the floor (next to the scissors). Not wanting to embarrass her in front of her friend, I just quietly picked up the handle and showed it to her. "I didn't cut it Mommy!" she exclaimed.

"Okay," I said. "We can talk about it later." (Again, not wanting to discuss it in front of her friend.)

I left the room and heard the following:

"I don't know why she is so worried about it. It's just bedroom stuff!" Why is she crying about a basket?!" (This, coming from a 5 year old!)

So my question is, how would you deal with this?

Harry Potter

Kelly, my niece Jordan, and myself all went to the IMAX theater to see, "Harry Potter - The Order of the Phoenix" yesterday. I LOVED this movie! Maybe it was because we watched it in the IMAX theater, but I was "gripped" from the beginning of the movie, all the way to the end. To be honest, a lot of the storyline involving other characters were left out. The movie's focus was on Harry, himself - and there were even parts that were changed for the movie. Taking all of this into consideration, I still loved it! The differences in the book and the movie did not ruin it for me.

Before and After

Our Fourth of July started out great. The plans were set for grilling out with family and friends, then wrapping up the evening with carnival rides and fireworks. Unfortunately, the last part of our evening was spent in the ER this year. Kellynn, the animal lover, got a little too close to a dog chewing on a bone. Boy, was she a trooper that night. She ended up with 5 stitches. I can't believe how well she handled it all. She handled it better than I did! The doctor ordered the nurse to get me a cold washcloth and a Sprite because I started "looking green." I did feel a bit on the light-headed side. It's just so hard to see your baby hurt. I am thankful she is okay and that her face is healing up quickly. I am also happy to see that she is not scared of dogs now. While visiting Auntie and Uncle Tommy yesterday, she tried to pet both of their dogs. Of course, she was very cautious this time.

I am a Nerd...

I can hardly wait to see this movie! I have already purchased tickets to see it with my sister at the IMAX theater! I haven't been this excited about seeing a movie since, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King."

Princesses and Hip Dysplasia

Kellynn wants you to know that she is now a princess. Do not ask her to do anything that is "beneath her." After folding clothes, I asked her to put her clothes away (3 items). She turned and looked at me and said, "Mom...I am a princess. You are not supposed to ask princesses to do work!" I informed her that I am the Queen - and queens make up the rules so, "Get busy before I treat you worse than Cinderella's step mother treated her!" She then asked, "Does that mean you will yell at me and make me clean the steps and EVERYTHING?" "YES!" answered Queen NaeNae.

On a serious note - Ella had her 15 month check up today. She has grown to be 30 and 1/2 inches long, and weighs 21 pounds even. The doctor said she is developing normally, and also mentioned that she acts more like an 18 month old with her social, verbal and motor skills. Wow! I must be doing something right! Unfortunately, she is still concerned about Ella's hip. One of her hip sockets actually "pops" when rotated. I have noticed this most often when picking her up and placing her on my hip. Her hip pops when she wraps her legs around me. The doctor is referring her to see a Pediatric Orthapedic doctor to have it checked. Once we have this appointment, I will know more.

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
