"Rubbin' Renee" - My Racing Name!

I've mentioned before that I am a huge Nascar fan. It seems this fun fact about myself surprises many people. I guess I don't "look" like the typical Nascar fan. To be honest, seven years ago, I could have cared less about racing. But now? I love it! It wasn't until I attended a race for the first time that I actually grew an appreciation for the sport. There is something about sitting in the stands and anticipating that first lap of the race. Once you hear the ear piercing roar of race cars speeding past you at 200 mph and feel the wind from the passing cars slap you in the face, you are hooked. Watching it on TV doesn't do it justice. If you ever get the chance to go to a Nascar Nextel Cup race, I highly recommend it. It is a lot of fun. And if you like to "people watch," this alone is worth the money of your ticket! Over the years I've seen my fair share of race fans. Apparently, wearing a shirt to these events are an option. Let's see...I've seen the "toothless," and the "I think I'm Kenny Chesney" - complete with tight jeans, cowboy hat, dark suntan, shell necklace, and shirtless BEER GUT the size of a watermelon! I've seen "hair pulling" fist fights and tattooed women wearing bikini tops. (I should mention the breasts in these bikini tops often look like lead softballs sitting in the bottom of tube socks! Not a pretty sight.) I've seen many people escorted out by security (due to public intoxication) and joints openly being passed around for enjoyment. But my favorite has to be the man dressed head to toe in Dale Earnhardt Sr. clothing, carrying his own bag of urine! Evidently, he checked himself out of the hospital just to see his hero race. Now that is a true race fan!

This past Saturday was the Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte. I went to the race with my husband, sister and her husband's family. We had a great time "tailgating" and watching the race. However, the best part was visiting the "pits," courtesy of my friend Chris (who works for Kasey Kahne's race team). I was able to get an up close look at the different race teams preparing for Saturday's race. Of course, I couldn't leave without getting a picture of myself with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car (my favorite driver)! Too bad his car sucked for the race!

Sounds FUN! I've never been to a race, but would love to go. I actually do like watching them on TV too-- I get into it!

NaeNae,
Your sister left a comment on my site. When I tried to look at hers and leave a comment, it wouldn't let me.
So, here it is:

He is absolutely ADORABLE. When Grace was born, there was a Grayson in the nursery with her. We said they were boyfriend and girlfriend. :-)
Motherhood is amazing isn't it? Challenging, fun, rewarding... the list goes on. It DOES go by fast. Everyone asks me when I will have another since Grace is 1 year old now, but I can't imagine that right now. I want to take the time to cherish every little thing that she does! But, looking back, there are things I thought I could never forget and I do forget them. I guess I will learn to write everything down!

Congratulations on your sweet baby! Enjoy!
P.S. Definitely enjoy the babysitter time too! :-)

You gotta love the All Star Race. I haven't been to one since '99. That was Tony's rookie year, he kicked butt in the open and finished second to Terry Labonte. I've been a fan ever since. It was also the first and only race that my wife has been too, but it's when she started liking Nascar. I think we are going to the Martinsville race during the chase this fall. Congrats on getting into the pits, that is always a lot of fun. Good photo with Little E's car.
