A Life-Changing Event

I was over at Crabby Mama's earlier this week and found her Q & A "series." I stumbled across a particular question, and decided I would post it on my blog. It's one of those questions that really make you think about your life and how certain paths lead you to different places.

What one event/decision (if you HAD to choose) do you think most influenced where you are in your life today? How has it affected you?

Here is my story:
I'm guessing the year was 1995. A friend of mine (Tara) asked me to go to a birthday party with her. I didn't know anyone at the party except for my friend I came with. While there, I met Kevin. I ended up talking to him the entire night. He was easy to talk to, and in ways, it reminded me of my Dad. (I went to my Dad a lot when I had "serious" things to talk about. He was a good listener and always had no-nonsense advice.) Unfortunately, I was in a relationship at the time, so I knew this friendship could go no further. We continued to run into each other periodically over the next year - through our mutual friends. Eventually, Kevin moved back home to North Carolina and life carried on.

In 1998, I started to realize the relationship I was in, was not the "right one" for me. Upon hearing this, my friend Tara reminded me of Kevin. She decided to play "Cupid," and called him to see if he was in a relationship at the time. (At this point, Kevin and I had not seen or talked to each other since 1996.) To make a long story short, I finished college 7 months later and moved to North Carolina to be with Kevin. It was a huge leap of faith to move to NC and to pursue this relationship - but somehow, I just knew it was what I was supposed to do. So in conclusion, the one event that most influenced my life, as I know it, was a chance meeting at a birthday party 13 years ago. It affected my life in a way I never would have imagined! It left me with a wonderful husband and two precious little girls that mean the world to me.

**The sad part to this story, is that I haven't spoken to my friend Tara in several years now. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be sitting here today, posting this story. So if you're out there, Tara - and you stumble across this blog, email me. There is a link at the top of this page. And BTW...Thanks!

The countdown is on...

For several things, really. Currently? It's bedtime. My two little ones have tested my level of patience tonight. Ella is completely off of her schedule after being sick for a week. We've been to the doctor's office three times over the course of 8 days. She had a double ear infection that wouldn't go away after antibiotics. She was given a shot of Rocephin in both legs on Tuesday and is now better. Unfortunately, her sleeping schedule was disrupted while being sick (as well as mine). She went back to school today, and is exhausted. Needless to say, this led to "meltdown" after "meltdown" during our nightly routines tonight. Then I had the added joy of a 6 year old who thinks it's funny to make her baby sister scream with aggravation. I'm a "big sister" myself, so I know all too well how much fun it is to antagonize little sisters. (I guess this is where I should apologize to Kelly and Jennifer, my two sisters, for dishing out "big sisterly" love over the years - and apologize to my Mom for having to deal with the aftermath. I feel your pain tonight, Mom.)

I am also counting down the days until Summer Break begins. There's 11 school days, to be exact. It's been a long week at work and I'm beat. I survived my first experience with "testing" in Fourth grade. Honestly, I felt sick on my stomach for the last three days. I was worried that my students wouldn't do well and worried that I didn't do enough to prepare them for the "big test." All in all, I guess I worked myself up for no reason - because they did well. HIP HIP HOORAY for my kids at school!

Letters of Apology...

To my husband and girls-
I'm sorry for working so many hours at school - coming home and putting in more time on school work. I'm sorry for not spending more of my time with you. I'm sorry for being "short," stressed out and distant. I have a lot on my mind with work. I have never been under this much pressure (self-induced, of course). Give me one more week and I promise your wife, Mommy, etc will return to normal.

To my house-
Sorry for neglecting you! After being at work all day long (and knowing I have brought more work home with me), the last thing I want to do is housework! If it weren't for Billie (my MIL), my house would be a disgusting mess! Thanks Billie, for picking up my slack! I couldn't do it without you!

To my kids at school-
I know it feels like I am pounding you right now...I know you are tired. I just want you guys to do well on your "big test" at the end of the year. One more week of review and it will be over. Then we (I) can relax and enjoy the end of the school year! Summer Break, here we come!

Sincerely,
NaeNae

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
