Movie Review

Playing by Heart

I found this movie while browsing Blockbuster Online. It's not a recent one - but definitely worth the time. I was surprised to see the cast (Sean Connery, Angelina Jolie, Ryan Phillippe, Gena Rowlands, Madeleine Stowe, Anthony Edwards, Jon Stewart, etc.) because I had never heard of it prior to finding it online. I would list this movie in the "Chick Flick" category (a sappy love story that will make you cry). It contains several different story lines that intersect at the end. I tend to like movies that are set up like this. My rating for this movie is a B+.

Poor Sheba

Sheba is our family pet cat. I have had Sheba since she was just a kitten - way back before marriage and children. She is 13 years old and very loving. Sheba is not the typical cat...moody, unpredictable, or "stand-offish." She is actually the opposite - friendly, welcomes rubs and wants to be in your lap (friends or strangers).

Two nights ago, something happened to Sheba while she was outside. (She goes outside to use the bathroom. I do not have a litter box in my house.) When she came back to the door, I let her in as usual and carried on with whatever I was doing at the moment. Later, I noticed her face was bloody. I immediately brought her to the bathroom and cleaned her up to see what was wrong. Somehow, she literally "split" her tongue wide open. There is a half inch laceration on the side of her tongue. It looks disgusting!

K-Bugg and I took Sheba to the vet this afternoon. The vet said she already has an infection and put her on antibiotics. They gave her fluids and some kind of nutritional supplement because she hasn't been eating or drinking for two days. If she does not start eating by Friday, she will have to go back for surgery. They will have to cut the "flapping" part of her tongue off because it appears to be hanging in the line of her bite. The vet is afraid it will not heal because she keeps biting it when trying to eat. At the same time, she really does not recommend surgery because it would just create a fresh wound and Sheba would continue not wanting to eat or drink. Evidently, cats' bodies are not designed for fasting. If Sheba doesn't start eating, she will not make it. I cried when she told me that today. Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for poor Sheba. I hope she starts feeling better soon.

Ten Interesting Facts You May or May Not Know...

1. I am the oldest of three girls.
2. I am a procrastinator.
3. I cry when I am stressed. I cried twice this week at work.
4. I graduated from a historical black college.
5. My girls have "family" names (Kellynn Michelle - sisters, Ella Ruby - grandmothers).
6. I would consider having cosmetic surgery in the near future. Does that make me vain? (facial peel - skin resurfacing, laser treatment on my legs for spider veins)
7. I love soda and prefer it over all other drinks. My drink of choice is Diet Mt. Dew.
8. I do not want a dog for a pet. I am too selfish with my time and would not want to add the responsibilty of training a dog.
9. I listen to a variety of music - but prefer the music from my high school days (late 80s/early 90s).
10. I do not care much about designer/name brands when shopping. I prefer Target and Old Navy.

Catching up...

Yes, I know...It's been awhile since I've posted. And it's not like I don't have anything to blog about! I've just been so busy trying to catch up on everything in my life!

Let's start with Oktoberfest. My sister, Kelly - planned our annual Girls' Weekend trip to Helen, GA. This was our first time going to Oktoberfest, and I thoroughly enjoyed every last minute! I won't go into great detail because Misty has pretty much covered everything. You can check it out here. But what I will share with you, is the highlights of our trip...

1. Seeing two of my bestest buddies, Misty and Kerry. We do not live near each other anymore, so our time to spend together is limited...Especially now that we are all "grown up" with families!

2. The road trip "heart-to-heart" talks/conversation. Man, I cried my eyes out going and coming! I love you girls!

3. Getting to know new friends.

4. The, "Sleep when you die!" motto (via Kerry). She did not want to waste one moment with sleeping.

5. Julie's sticky fingers at the Mexican restaurant (trying to steal Guappo's sodas).

6. Karaoke (at the outdoor bar and the hotel version)

7. Jenny's Cornhole game.

8. Beer "shotguns" in the parking lot with our new friends, the police.

9. Anna serving up our Mexican dishes before we actually ordered (dirty dishes out of the washtub). And her application of lip gloss when Kerry suggested she wear lipgloss for a picture. "A girl's got to look her best!"

10. Waiting all weekend to go to the festhaus (Oktoberfest's main attraction) - only to find it was shut down due to a power outage!

11. Stopped up toilets.

12. My almost mishap with a microwave and a sausage biscuit. I cooked the biscuit a little too long and nearly burned down the hotel. (Not really...but there was a lot of smoke that literally billowed out of our room and caused the smoke alarm to beep.

13. The Pradas (Kerry's glasses).

14. Laughter, laughter, laughter! My ribs and back were sore on Monday from laughing so hard all weekend.

I am a mother, wife and full-time teacher, with a very sassy little girl (daughter 1) on my hands and another one following in her footsteps (daughter 2). And I wonder where the gray hairs are coming from?
